World Hepatitis Day: National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme launched

New Delhi: With a view to eliminate viral hepatitis C in the Country by 2030, Union Health Minister JP Nadda launched the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Health Minister said Government of India is committed to offer free drugs and diagnostics facilities for hepatitis B & C cases at all government hospitals across the country.

This initiative will also provide laboratory testing & management of viral hepatitis with a de-centralized approach under the umbrella of National Health Mission, he added.

The programme aims to treat a minimum of 3 lakh hepatitis C cases over a period of three years, the Minister claimed.

Viral hepatitis is inflammation of the liver due to a viral infection. WHO says viral hepatitis B and C are major health challenges, affecting 325 million people globally.

Union Ministers Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Anupriya Patel were also present on the occasion.
