World Elephant Day celebrated in Nandankanan

Bhubaneswar: The World Elephant Day was celebrated with much gaiety at Nandankanan Zoological Park here on Sunday.

The elephants were brought outside the Zoo where schools students and visitors along with the authorities of the zoo fed the pachyderms different kinds of fruits including apple, watermelon and banana.

However, ‘Mama’, a 1.5-year-old elephant calf was the prime attraction of the day.

This apart, a special awareness meeting was organised on the zoo premises.

The World Elephant Day is observed every year on August 12 to create awareness on preservation and protection of elephants around the globe.

The observation of the day is also aims at sharing knowledge and positive solutions for the better care and management of captive and wild elephants.
