World Blood Donation Day observed at KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The World Blood Donation Day was celebrated at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. On this occasion, some blood donors were felicitated for donating blood.

Blood donation is not only a noble deed, it prevents heart diseases and keeps the blood pressure level balanced,” said the head of the KIMS Hospital Blood Bank while speaking on the occasion.

The Blood Bank of the hospital was renamed after its transfusion medicine department became functional since 2006. With the help of modern machines and technology available at the KIMS Blood Bank, Plasma, Platelets White Blood Cells (WBC) and Red Blood Cell (RBC) are differentiated from the donated blood. It is said a man can save as many as six lives if donate blood.
