Working Hour Of Lecturers In Odisha To Be Extended To Seven Hours

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to extend the working hour of lecturers to seven hours from five hours. An official notification in this regard will be out soon by the Higher Education Department.

A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting between government college principals and Higher Education Department officials in the state capital today. Higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo chaired the meeting held at the Panthanivas.

During the meeting, it was decided that the lecturers have to dedicate two additional hours for research and academic development work.

“We held a discussion with the principals of all government colleges and other stakeholders to strengthen the higher education system in the state,” said Sahoo.

Among other decisions, the Department has decided to set up biometric attendance in all government colleges in the state within two-three months. Currently, 16 out of 52 colleges have biometric attendance systems.

Department officials said that the state government will also initiate the process of filling up the vacant faculty positions in various colleges.
