Keonjhar: Tension ran high in Khireitangiri village under Patna block of Keonjhar district today after hundreds of women gheraoed the local sarpanch over water scarcity and demanded drinking water supply.
As per the report, the growing resentment of locals over non-inclusion of Daburchua, Nuagaon and Talapada village in an under construction drinking water supply project in the village took an ugly turn today and a group of women arrived at the panchayat office to protest. Later, they detained the sarpanch demanding immediate grievance redressal.
However, the gheraoe was lifted by the agitating women after the sarpanch assured them to look into the matter soon.
Notably, a number of villages under Patna block in Kenojhar district suffer from acute drinking water shortage every summer.
