Keonjhar: In yet another case of dowry-related torture, a woman has been hospitalized after being beaten up mercilessly by her husband and mother-in-law in Mahulipashi village under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar last night.
As per the report, the victim woman identified as Ambika Jena, daughter of Balaram Jena of Sobhara village of Jajpur had been married off to Fakir Jena of Mahulipashi village six years ago post a love affair for few months.
However, Ambika was suffering mental and physical torture in the hands of her in-laws since her marriage to bring more dowry from home.
Last night, a verbal duel erupted between the victim and his mother-in-law over the same issue. In a fit of rage during the altercation, Fakir and his mother reportedly thrashed the victim mercilessly leaving her injured. She was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Ambika’s father has lodged case at Ghasipura Police Station in connection with the incident demanding justice for his daughter.
Police have started an investigation into the allegation.
