Woman stabbed to death in Nabarangpur over witchcraft suspicion

Nabarangpur: A woman has been stabbed to death on suspicion of practising witchcraft in Gujumapadar village under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Tulabati Santa.

It is learnt that Tulabati’s neighbours and the accused duo Dhanu Santa and Radha Santa were suspecting her to be practising witchcraft for the past couple of months and causing harm to their family members. Later, the village panchayat had also ostracised Tulabati’s family from the village over the issue following a complaint from Dhanu and Radha.

Last night with a motive to eliminate the victim the accused duo took her to a nearby field forcibly by entering into her house and attacked with a plough. She bled profusely and died on the spot.

Maidalpur Police rushed to the spot this morning after getting intimated on the murder and seized the body for autopsy.

Efforts are underway by police to trace the accused duo who are absconding since the killing.
