Woman journalist misbehaved during hartal in OdishaBhubaneswar: BJD workers misbehaved with a woman journalist working with a leading media organisation here during the five-hour hartal of the state ruling party against the Union government over the steep hike in fuel prices.

According to reports, the lady scribe was manhandled by the agitators near Patia Big Bazaar square when she was going towards office on her two-wheeler this morning.

While some BJD activists were seen and heard hurling abuses on her for stepping out during the hartal hours, one of them lifted the front wheel of her vehicle giving her a scare. Another agitator hit her vehicle repeatedly with a piece of wood, which luckily did not touch the media person.

Some irate protesters even asked her to return home, threatening her of dire consequence if she disobeyed their orders.

Another young woman’s vehicle was damaged by BJD youths at Delta Square.

In other places also, the BJD activists damaged many vehicles, including a Scorpio with a BJP flag, for not remaining off roads during the five-hour strike.

The assault on commuters has been widely condemned with people wondering what will happen to lay persons if a journalist having her press card is facing such a situation during the protest.

Meanwhile, Twin City commissioner YB Khurania has said if anyone who has been at the receiving end of assault or misbehaviour during the hartal files a complaint, action will be taken after scanning the CCTV footage.
