Odisha: Woman postal agent arrested for siphoning over Rs 50 lakh

Apart from arresting Swarnalata, police also recovered 127 postal passbooks of 98 depositors from her house, said sources.

Bhubaneswar: The Lingaraj Police in Bhubaneswar has reportedly arrested a woman postal agent on charges of siphoning over Rs 50 lakh from several depositors. The accused has been identified as Swarnalata Das.

The Lingaraj Police had started an investigation after a woman from Kedar Lane of the Bhubaneswar Old Town area field a complaint alleging that Swarnalata duped her by identifying her as a postal agent.

The accused had allegedly duped several depositors for more than a year and siphoned over Rs 50 lakh. However, Lingaraj Police arrested her from Jagatsinghpur yesterday.

Apart from arresting Swarnalata, police also recovered 127 postal passbooks of 98 depositors from her house, said sources adding that she was forwarded to the court after a medical checkup.
