Keonjhar: A woman and her one-month-old baby girl were burnt to death after a kerosene lamp fell on them in Sanamasinabila village under Ghatagaon Police Station area in Keonjhar district last night.
The deceased have been identified as Kuntilata Nayak, wife of Rabi Nayak of Sanamasinabila village and their daughter.
The mishap took place while Kuntilata was filling kerosene in a lamp kept on a shelf in the house with the one-month-old in her hand. Due to her negligence the lamp which was already light up, fell on the duo. Both the mother and the child sustained critical burn injury in the incident. Kuntilata’s mother-in-law also sustained burn injury in a bid to save the mother and the child.
The injured trio was rushed to Ghatagaon CHC immediately by the family members and later shifted to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) due to deteriorating condition where Kuntilata and her child succumbed to the injuries.
