Keonjhar: An elderly woman was killed after being run over by a speeding SUV at Melana Square on NH-20 under Ghatagaon police limits in the district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Radhika Tanti, a resident of Melana village.
The mishap took place in the morning while the victim was crossing the NH. In a bid to walk across the road, she failed to detect the speeding Bolero passing through the route and was run over by it. She died on the spot following the accident.
Angry locals staged a road blockade on the NH demanding compensation for the kin of the victim. They also demanded for the immediate arrest of the Bolero driver who managed to escape from the spot after the accident.
Police rushed the body for postmortem to Ghatagaon CHC reaching the spot and removed the road blockade by pacifying the locals.
