Woman killed in wild elephant attack in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In yet another case of jumbo attack in the State, a woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Damola village under Mahabir Road Forest Range in Dhenkanal district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Budhei Behera of the same locality.

Budhei, who had taken her goats to graze to a pasture located on the outskirts of the village didn’t return till late last night post which her family launched a frantic search. While she remained untraceable, her body was spotted near Badakata pond today morning.

From the circumstantial evidences it is believed that the victim had been trampled by a jumbo which could have been a part of a herd which kept roaming in Parjang area for past few days and caused massive crop damage.

After tension gripped the village over jumbo attack and locals staged protest, forest officials and Sarang Police reached the spot to take stock of the situation of late.
