Kendrapara: Timely steps of local youths last night saved the life of a newly-married woman who attempted to commit suicide by jumping into Luna River near Bahakandia under Kendrapara Sadar police limits here last evening.
As per the report, the victim identified as Laxmipriya, a resident of Bachharai village under Patkura police limits had been married off to Sanatan Parida of Akhua village roughly two years ago. While the couple was going through a bad phase in their relationship for past few months, quarrels had become a regular affair among them.
However, thing went out of control last evening at around 7 pm yesterday after a verbal duel erupted again between Laxmipirya and her husband on Luna River bridge and she jumped off it into water with an intention to commit suicide.
Hearing the screaming of the victim’s husband some local youths jumped into the river immediately and rescued the woman in critical condition.
The victim was later rushed to Kendrapara DHH for treatment.
Police have lodged a case in the incident and started investigation.
