Woman half-tonsured, paraded in village over illicit affair suspicion

Balasore: In a shocking incident, a woman has been publicly humiliated in Sanakaliapada village under Nilagiri police limits here recently for merely going out of the home with her distant relative.

As per the report, the victim went out of the village along with her brother-in-law (sister’s husband) on August 21 in some work and had returned home on the same day. However, suspecting the duo of having an illicit affair some villagers dragged him out of her home the next day and half-tonsured to parade through the village in full public view.

The victim woman’s brother lodged a complaint against the accused persons yesterday at Nilagiri Police Station demanding stringent action against for the inhumane act.

Police have arrested at least five persons including women of late and their interrogation is underway.
