Woman dies, husband critical as youth attacks couple in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: A woman was killed and her husband sustained critical injuries as they were attacked with sharp weapon by a youth at Bhatasahi village under Odagaon police limits Odisha’s Nayagarh District late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Mani Singh and the injured as her husband Niranjan Singh of the village.

Niranjan has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here. His condition was critical, when the last reports came in.

According to reports, a verbal spat erupted among some youths following a feast that was organised in the village. The couple returned to their home following the incident.

However, the situation turned ugly when a 24-year-old youth, identified as Manoj Nayak, came in inebriated condition to the couple’s home and started abusing them that led to a serious verbal altercation.

In a fit of rage, Manoj mercilessly attacked the couple with a billhook. Mani died on the spot while her husband was critical on the attack.

On being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem.

“The accused is at large. Investigation is underway and a man haunt has been launched to nab the accused”, police said.
