Bhawanipatna: An elderly woman was brutally crushed to death with a stone in Pragati Nagar under Junagarh Police Station area in Kalahandi district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Suryakanti Meher.
As per a complaint filed by Suryakanti’s husband Someshwar at the Junagarh Police Station in connection with the incident, some unidentified miscreants struck at his house located in Pragati Nagar area near Matigaon village at around 8 PM last night with an intention of loot. Finding Suryakanti alone at home they reportedly attacked her with a stone and killed on the spot.
Someshwar and his son reached home getting information on the incident today morning.
“I was out of home since Saturday to attend a marriage party of a relative in Semla and had told my nephew to reach home and stay there till I return. However, after reaching my home at around 8 PM on Sunday he found Suryakanti lying in a pool of blood and informed me. I don’t suspect anybody as we had no previous enmity with anybody,” said Someshwar.
However, police have ruled out the theory of robbery bid as no valuables have been looted from the victim’s house.
Meanwhile, scientific team and dog squad of police have reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
