Woman critically burnt, husband hurt in kitchen fire in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A woman was critically burnt and her husband sustained injuries in a kitchen fire which broke out in Nalda village under Barbil police limits in the district last night.

The victim couple has been identified as Rashmi Moharana and her husband Dillip Moharana of the same village.

As per the report, Rashmi was busy in cooking in the kitchen at her house when the mishap took place at around 8 PM last night. While lighting a stove the victim’s saree caught fire due to sheer negligence and spread very rapidly onto her whole body.

As the victim raised an alarm following the mishap, her husband reached out for help and got both his hands burnt in the rescue attempt.

The couple was rushed to Barbil Community Health Centre (CHC) by other family members after they doused the flames.

The victim woman has sustained 90 per cent burns and her condition is critical, said the medical authorities.

Police have lodged a case in connection with the incident and the matter is under investigation.
