Woman critical in wild jumbo attack in Angul

Angul: With no respite in sight from the jumbo menace in the State, a woman turned critical after being attacked by a wild elephant in Dangapal village under Chhendipada block in Angul district today.

The deceased has been identified as Parbati Majhi (60) of the same village.

The pachyderm attack took place at around 6 am this morning. Parbati had been to attend nature’s call near a pond in the village in the morning and was returning home when a tusker which had sneaked into the village last night pounced on her. The jumbo reportedly left the spot after the victim fell unconscious in its attack.

The elephant squad of Forest Department later came across the critically injured woman and rushed her to Chhendipada Community Health Centre (CHC) and then shifted to Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for better treatment.
