Woman Constable, sister hacked by house owner in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A woman Constable and her sister sustained grievous injury after being hacked by the house owner where they lived on rent in Danipali village under Ainthapali Police Station area in the district last night.

The victims have been identified as Rasmi Rekha Dixit, Constable, Sambalpur Town Police Station and his sister Gitirekha Dixit.

The accused house owner identified as Sapan Chakraborty knocked the door of Rasmi Rekha’s house last night and started hacking her with a ‘Bhujali’ (a sharp weapon) immediately after she opened the door. Later the attacker chased and hacked Gitirekha by using foul language at her and fled from the spot.

The victim duo was rushed to Burla Hospital with critical head injuries by some neighbours following the attack.

Police arrested the accused house owner from his house later in the night following the filing of a complaint by Gitirekha.

While the exact motive of the attacker is yet to be ascertained, police suspect the attack was carried out to avenge a past rivalry.
