Chandabali: While the entire nation was busy in celebrating Dussehra also known as Vijaya Dashami with lot of fun and fervor, a pall of gloom descended on Sohapur Nuagaon village under Tihidi police limits of the district today following the death of two minor girls and their grandmother who died after drowning in a pond.
The deceased were identified as Malilata Mallick (70) and her two granddaughters–Srabani (10) and Anjana (9).
Sources said that both the sisters had gone to the pond together in the morning to attend nature’s call when they accidentally slipped into the deep water. Later, their grandmother who spotted them drowning rushed to rescue them. However, the trio met the watery grave.
Some of the locals retrieved the bodies from the pond and sent to the hospital for post-mortem.
Police, meanwhile, have started an investigation into the matter.
