Jajpur: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two daughters attempted suicide by consuming poison at Pada Sahi in Binjharpur police limits of the district.
According to reports, one Ketaki Jena and her two daughters Mamata and Gurbari took the extreme step following the death of her son Mantu in Kerala three days ago.
The trio has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital and their conditions are said to be stable.
They had attempted to end their lives by jumping into the village pond earlier yesterday. However, some villagers had rescued them.
Sources said that Mantu had gone to Kerala to work in Plywood Company after his father, who was mentally ill, left the house some years ago. However, he died on Monday due to some reasons, which is yet to be known.
The bereaved family was unable to accept the death of Mantu, as he was the only earning member of the family, following which they were repeatedly attempting suicide.
Meanwhile, Mantu’s uncle with other relatives has gone to Kerala to get his body.
On the other hand, police have started an investigation into the matter.
