Winter Session of Parliament Ends Today

New Delhi: Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on Friday, bringing an end to the Winter Session.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan made a statement about the businesses and the functioning of the House during the session. She said during the session, the House passed twelve Bills including “Triple Talaq” and “Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code” .

Mahajan said due to disruptions, around 15 working hours of House were wasted. She, however, said the House sat over 8 hours extra to complete its business. Later, she adjourned the House Sine Die.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said that House has passed nine government bills and over 400 questions were orally answered during the session which commenced on December 15th.

He regretted on the continued disruptions in the House and said there was a need to think about it. Significantly, the Opposition has stuck to its demand that the “Triple Talaq” Bill be referred to a select committee while the government has accused parties of “double standards” as they supported it in the lower House.
