Wild tusker tramples woman to death in Dhenkanal, damages house

Dhenkanal: In yet another case of elephant incursion in the state, a wild tusker trampled a woman in Chilataila village under Hindol Forest Range in Dhenkanal district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Ketuka Samal.

As per the report, the jumbo attack took place at around 2 am last night while everybody was asleep in the village. After sneaking into the village in search of food from a nearby forest the tusker started damaging several houses. As the residents woke up and tried to drive the animal away, it pounced on the victim and lifted her with the trunk to throw to a distance. Later, she was trampled to death by the jumbo on the spot.

While forest officials had not reached the village till this report was being filed, locals have claimed that the wild jumbo has wreaked havoc in the village for past few days. They have demanded for a quick action on the part of the forest officials to end the menace.
