Wild jumbo tramples woman in Angul village

Angul: In yet another case of jumbo attack in the State, an elderly woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Talataila village in Kanaloi Reserve Forest area under Chhendipada Range in Angul today.

The deceased has been identified as Khedi Majhi (68), wife of Anant Majhi of Kanaloi village.

As per the report, Khedi along with her daughter-in-law had gone to a cashew garden located near Compartment-7 of Kanaloi Reserve Forest at around 6 am today to pluck cashew. A tusker which had sneaked into the garden last night in search of food chased the duo while they were busy in collecting the nuts.

While the daughter-in-law of the victim managed to escape from the spot, the elephant lifted her with its trunk and slammed to the ground and trampled. She died on the spot.

Angry locals staged a protest in the village demanding compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.

Local police reached the spot to pacify the mob.
