Wild elephants spread panic in Gajapati

Elephant MenanceGajapati: People in Gosani area in the district have been in a state of panic for the last ten days as a large herd of wild elephants caused extensive damage to the standing vegetable and paddy crops in the area.

Over 100 acres of grown paddy crops in villages like Gosani , Soura sahi, Sariapalli, Aadagaon, Mahadeipur, Kaithagada, and Jangalpadu have been damaged by the elephants.

The villagers, who have been worried over the wild elephant menace, resorted to chasing away the elephants by beating drums and bursting crackers.

The villagers have blamed the Forest Department for failing to take any action in chasing the elephants back into the forests. However, the forest officials informed that efforts are being made to drive away the elephants into the jungle.

Two platoons of police have been deployed for the safety and security of the people in the area.
