Wild elephant tramples woman to death in Angul

Angul: In yet another case man animal conflict in the State, a wild elephant trampled a woman to death in Pratappur village under Handapa police limits in Angul district today.

The deceased has been identified as Manjulata Sahu (55) of the same locality.

As per the report, the victim was out of her in some work early this morning when confronted with a wild jumbo which had sneaked into the village last night in search of food. The pachyderm pounced on her and lifted with the trunk and threw to a distance before trampling to death.

Angry locals blocked NH-55 near Pratappur protesting the incident and demanded suitable compensation to the family of the deceased. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the highway due to the protest.

Forest officials have rushed to the village to look into the matter.
