Wild elephant tramples woman to death in Angul

Angul: With no respite in sight from elephant attack in the State, a middle-aged woman was trampled to death in Gopalpur village under Purunakote Forest Range in Angul district today.

The deceased has been identified as Jayati Bir (40) of the same locality.

Jayanti had been to a field located near his house to attend nature’s call in the wee hours today at around 3.30 am when the jumbo attack took place. A tusker which had sneaked into the locality in search of food the previous night pounced on her and trampled to death.

A forest team led by Purunakot Ranger Gajendra Behera rushed to the spot immediately and seized the deceased’s body for autopsy.

The kin of the dead woman will be entitled for compensation under the existing policy of the government for jumbo attack victims, informed a source.
