Jajpur: Adding to the ongoing jumbo menace in the State, a wild elephant trampled a man to death in Benapatia village under Kalinga Nagar police limits in Jajpur district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Benudhar Siddhu of the same locality.
As per the report, the jumbo had sneaked into the village and was grazing on the haystack outside the house of the victim late last night. Mistaking the pachyderm for a bull Benudhar came out of his room to drive it away and fell under its clutches.
The jumbo lifted the victim with its trunk and slammed to the ground before trampling. However, his wife who was also at the spot had a narrow escape in the jumbo attack.
Forest officials have rushed to the village to drive away the jumbo to prevent further damage to life and property.
