Soro: Residents under Soro forest range in Balasore district have been in a state of panic since this morning as a wild elephant caused extensive damage to harvested paddy at threshing yards and standing vegetables in the area.

The jumbo was seen at Bogadia and Ratina villages moving on agriculture fields freely and damaging the paddy and standing cabbages.

The villagers, who have been worried over the wild elephant menace, resorted to chasing the elephant by beating drums and bursting crackers.

The forest officials have asked the locals to stay at safer places and not to attack the jumbo. “We are trying to drive away the elephant into the jungle,” said Soro Forester Sumati Dash.

Police have also reached the spot to provide security to the people in the region.
