Wild elephant herd wreaks havoc in Nilagiri of Balasore

Balasore: An elephant herd sneaked into the villages under Nilagiri area and caused massive crop damage in villages under it last night.

The herd comprising of six elephants including three calves had started from Kuldiha forest range a week ago in search of food and were spotted in the farmlands in villages like Kansha, Narasinghpur, Anikapur and Durgapur late in the night while grazing on the standing crops.

Locals called up forest officials and reported the matter immediately seeking action to prevent the herd from causing more loss.

The forest officials have reached the spot and launched efforts to drive away the jumbos till the last report came in.
