Wild bear falls in trap laid for boar in Balasore, rescue operation underway

Nilagiri: Yet another animal, this time a wild bear got stuck in a trap laid to catch wild boar in Kathagochi Reserve Forest area near here in Balasore district on Friday.

The incident came to fore after some villagers spotted the bear grunting in the trap this morning and called up forest officials.

Locals said, the trap had been laid to catch a wild boar which is on prowl in the area and involved in destroying crops. The bear which sneaked into the village last night in search of food might have unknowingly fallen in the trap.

While, a group of forest officials including Mitrapur Forester Ganesh Prasad Lenka, Nilagiri ranger Sukumar Das and ACF Lakhman Kumar Pradhan rushed to the forest to rescue the bear.

Another tranquilizer team from Baripada is awaited to join the rescue operation.
