New Delhi: Wife of martyred Odia CRPF Jawaan Pradip Kumar Panda on Tuesday received the Kirti Chakra on his behalf from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Gallantry Awards and Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Panda had been killed while fighting the militants who had attacked a CRPF camp at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir on December 30, 2017. The gunfight had lasted for over 30 hours.
Kirti Chakra was also awarded posthumously to Army soldier Vijay Kumar for his outstanding bravery during a counter-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Kumar’s wife was present at the ceremony to receive the award on his behalf.
Noteworthy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa and other eminent persons were present during the award ceremony.
