Western Odisha turns boiling pot as IMD predicts heat waves

Heatwave conditions to continue till June 11

Bhubaneswar: While the heatwave conditions have put normal life out of gear in the entire state, the condition in Western Odisha has worsened with soaring temperatures and humidity.

Nine cities of the state have had temperatures crossing 40 degree Celsius with Titlagarh ruling at the top with 45.5 degrees. Similarly, Balangir and Malkangiri recorded 44 degrees and 43.4 degrees Celsius.

While Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna, Subarnapur recorded 43 degrees each Sambalpur was at 42.7, Jharsuguda 42.6, Hirakud 41.4 degrees Celsius.

The Regional Meteorological Department has predicted that the heatwave conditions in Odisha, specifically in the western parts, will continue till June 11.

A number of government and non-government organizations have set up multiple temporary drinking water kiosks (Jal Chhatra) around the state. These kiosks also play shelters for commuters to get respite from the scorching heat.

The SRC has asked people to listen to the radio, watch TV, read the Newspaper for local weather news. It advised people to drink sufficient water even if not thirsty and use ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, to keep them hydrated.
