Water level keeps rising in Hirakud dam

Sambalpur: With no respite in sight from the flood fear in the State, Hirakund Dam continued to register rise in the water level today due to heavy rainfall in upper catchment areas of Mahanadi river.

The water level at the reservoir at Hirakud remained at 615.52 ft by 9.00 am today.

Per second, a quantum of 90,364 cusec water is entering into the reservoir against a discharge of 15,132 cusec.

In view of the rising water level in the reservoir, the dam authorities on Saturday decided to open the first sluice gate on August 14 to release first flood water of the season.

Notably, the Hirakud Dam has a storage capacity of 630 ft.
