Berhampur: A wanted criminal sustained critical injuries after a bomb he was possessing went off in Banthapalli village under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district today.
The injured identified as Cheru Gouda has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur following the incident.
Cheru who has a number of criminal cases pending against him at different police station areas was busy in planning to target Banthapalli sarpanch along with an aide last night when the explosion took place.
While Cheru sustained grievously injury on his hand during the incident, his associate managed to flee from the spot.
Police have lodged a case in connection with the incident and started investigation.
