Rourkela: At least two minor girls were killed and their mother sustained critical injuries after a mud wall caved in and collapsed on them in Malgodown area under Uditnagar police limits here last night.
The deceased duo has been identified as Shreya Barik and Soumya Barik.
The mishap took place at around 3 AM in the night while the trio were asleep. A portion of a mud wall at the victims’ house, which had weakened in incessant rainfall for last couple of days collapsed suddenly and fell on them.
After the woman somehow managed to come out of the rubble and raised an alarm family members along with some neighbours swung into action to rescue her daughter duo trapped under the debris. However, till then they had succumbed to the injuries.
The injured mother was later rushed in a critical condition to Rourkela Government Hospital.
Police have seized the bodies for autopsy and lodged a case in the incident.
