Virat Kohli Becomes No.1 Batsman In Test Cricket After Sachin

New Delhi: After a spectacular performance as a batsman in the Edgbaston Test against England, cricketer Virat Kohli has surpassed Steve Smith to become the number one batsman in test cricket.

As per the latest updates, Kohli emerged top in the world rankings, with an impressive career-high 934 ratings points, just ahead of Smith who is at 929 points. Currently, Kohli is India’s highest ranked batsman surpassing Sunil Gavaskar (916). Notably, Donald Bradman (961) and Steve Smith (947) are the only two batsmen who are ahead of Kohli in world rankings.

Virat Kohli had scored his 22nd Test century in the Edgbaston test with a knock of 149 in the first innings, following it up with 51 in the second. This spectacular play ensured the Indian Captain a 934 ratings point, surpassing Steve Smith who stood at 929. However, India lost the match to England by 31 runs.

Apart from Kohli and Smith at the top, there were no other changes in the top 10 list, barring Jonny Bairstow who did well for England with 70 and 28 and climbed up four places to share the No.12 position with Kraigg Brathwaite of the West Indies.

Sachin Tendulkar was the last Indian batsman to be ranked No. 1 Test Cricket Batsman in 2011. Apart from Tendulkar and Kohli, Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag are the other Indian players who had earlier achieved the top slot in ICC rankings.
