Cuttack: A woman was arrested by the state police after the video in which she was seen beating her niece mercilessly in CDA Sector-11 area of the city, went viral yesterday.
Police soon swung into action after an FIR was lodged at CDA Phase II police station and arrested the woman. She will be forwarded to the court later today, said sources.
The Cuttack district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) rescued the child from her aunt’s house at CDA Sector 11 after the video footage, in which the four-year-old child was being beaten mercilessly by the woman, went viral on multiple media platforms. The child, who has several injury marks through out her body, has been shifted to a shelter home.
When asked about the incident, the woman said that she was beating her for being mischievous and the child’s parents who stay in New Delhi, know about it. The child is said to be staying with the lady since nine months.
