Balasore: An elderly tantric and his aide were brutally thrashed by villagers before being handed over to police in Khunta Bulunia village under Manipur gram panchayat in the district over their alleged role in the death of a woman.
The tantric has been identified as Madhusudan Nayak of Thakurmunda village.
Madhusudan who used to cure diseases by tantric methods, had conducted a treatment on a lady Ambika Khilar of the village a few days ago. Though Ambika got well following the treatment, her mother-in-law Susheela Khilar succumbed to a disease a few days later.
Suspecting Madhusudan’s role in the death, some angry villagers detained him along with an aide this morning and thrashed brutally. The victim duo were freed from the clutches of the locals after Thakurmunda Police reached the spot and intervened.
Police have taken them into custody and started their interrogation to find out the truth behind the allegation.
