Villagers chop woman’s hair suspecting her character in Balangir

Balangir: Suspecting her character, a group of villagers chopped-off a woman’s hair at Karakachia village under Loisingha police limits of the district recently.

The incident had taken place on June 3. However, the matter came to light yesterday only when the victim filed an FIR at Loisingha police station against five men and three women.

According to reports, some locals of Karakachia village allegedly found the woman in a compromising position with a man of the neighbouring village, following which there was a meeting between the residents of both the villages.

On the following day, some Karakachia villagers had gone to the man’s village where some argument ensued between both the sides over the incident. Later, when the villagers returned home, they suddenly attacked the woman and dragged her out of the house and chopped-off her hair.

“Kiran Barik, Papun Gadtia, Sudam Barik, Nirakara Gadtia, Sasmita Pradhan, Tapaswini Gadtia, Jayanti Barik and Hemalata Barik beat me and cut my hair suspecting my character,” said the victim while speaking to Kalinga TV.

Loisingha police station IIC L.L. Balla said, “The woman has filed a case against one Kiran Barik and his relatives alleging that they questioned her character and copped-off her hair. We have started an investigation into the matter.”
