Pipili: Tension ran high in Balajitpur village under Kanas block here today following a road blockaded staged by locals protesting the inordinate delay in power supply restoration in the area post cyclone ‘Fani’ onslaught.

Vehicular movement along Kanas-Delang route was badly affected as protesters blocked it by burning tyres and keeping stones during the protest. By resorting to sloganeering they criticized the Electricity Department’s dilly dallies in taking proper step to restore electricity in the area.

“While one and half month has already been passed since the occurrence of cyclone ‘Fani’ in the State no visible step has been taken by the Electricity Department to reinstall electricity in the village and this happened despite our repeated appeal necessary steps,” said a protestor.

Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on either side of the road during protest for at least 2 hours posing a tough time for commuters.

Later, Kanas Police Station IIC pacified the agitators to lift the blockade by reaching the spot.
