Villagers attack forest officials after tusker kills woman in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: In yet another incident of people taking law into their hands over wild elephant attack, a group of villagers attacked the vehicles of forest officials in Bindapur village under Nakati Deula police limits here today.

As per the report, a wild tusker which has sneaked into the village last night pounced on the victim identified as one Sandhya while she had been to attend nature’s call at around 5.30 AM this morning and trampled her to death.

While the villagers called up forest officials immediately, they reached very late in the morning which sparked a public resentment. Irate villagers attacked and damaged the forest vehicles with cudgels and detained the officials for hours.

Local police rushed to the spot and freed the officials from the mob after assuring people with suitable compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.

Notably, a few days back scores of women had attacked a Ranger in Haridapashi village under Tigiria police limits in Cuttack district following death of a man in jumbo attack. Later, police lodged a case against villagers in connection with the incident.
