Vijay Diwas: Odisha CM salutes courage of Indian soldiers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday joined the nation to mark the Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) and appreciated the role of Indian soldiers in protecting the country.
Taking to his Twitter account, Patnaik paid his rich tributes to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971. He also saluted the courage and valour of Indian soldiers.

Notably, Vijay Diwas is commemorated on December 16 every year to mark Indian military’s victory over Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, in alliance with Bangladesh Mukti Bahini.
On this day in 1971, the former chief of Pakistani forces, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 troops, surrendered to the allied forces consisting of Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, led by General Jagjit Singh Aurora of India in the Ramna Race Course, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka after their defeat in the war.
The anniversary of Vijay Diwas is observed across India by paying tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.
