Vigilance seeks public support in fight against ‘PC Culture’

Vig seeks public support for zero tolerance against 'PC Culture' Cuttack: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday sought the support of the people of the state for zero tolerance against the ‘PC’ (percentage commission) culture in the state.

The anti-corruption agency launched seven land line telephones in different Vigilance divisions, including the Directorate.

“We have dedicated seven land line telephones in different Vigilance divisions and request the public to inform us as soon as they come across any case of PC. The special drive has been initiated with the objective to contain and minimize corrupt practices in the rural housing schemes,” said Vigilance Director R.P. Sharma at a press meet at the Vigilance Directorate today.

People can inform Vigilance sleuths about cases of bribery through these telephones from 8 AM to 8 PM.

The seven telephone numbers are:

Vigilance Headquarters: 0671-2305988, Cuttack: 0671-2305682, Bhubaneswar: 0674-2397748, Berhampur: 0680-2282300, Sambalpur: 0663-2412115, Balasore: 06782-255005 and Koraput: 06854-233330.

Sharma said till date, the Vigilance has registered 37 cases and arrested 9 accused allegedly involved in the State Government’s flagship Rural Housing Scheme projects being implemented across the State.

Besides, open inquiry had been initiated in 76 cases while 48 cases are under the scanner based on secret information.

Out of the cases registered, 8 are from Sambalpur while 7 are from Berhampur, 6 cases each from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and 5 each from Balasore and Koraput.

42 Panchayat Executive officers, 4 Gram Panchayat Technical Assistants, 4 Junior Engineers, 1 SI of School, 1 Progressive Assistant, 2 Welfare Extension Officers have been named as accused in the FIRs registered in these 76 cases.

Out of the 411 cases in the rural housing schemes till date, inquiry has been conducted on petitions in 45 cases and surprisedchecks have been conducted in 196 cases, added the Vigilance Director.
