Kendrapada: Video of an anganwadi worker stripped, beaten in public went vial in Odisha on Wednesday. The incident took place at Dahanigiri village under Rajkanika of the district.

According to reports, the Dahanigiri anganwadi centre was closed for around 18 months following some disputed among the locals. However, following the intervention of the local CDPO it became functional again last week.

On Wednesday, some locals, including some men, gheraoed the anganwadi worker, while she was on her to the anganwadi centre, and questioned her over the food and money that was sanctioned during the period of the non-functioning of the anganwadi kitchen. However, some women had a heated argument with her following which they stripped and thrashed her in public. Besides, they allegedly recorded the act in some mobile phones and made the video viral on social networking sites.

“As the ward-member did not co-operate with me I could not withdraw money to run the anganwadi kitchen. It was closed for a period of 18 months. However, I opened the kitchen after the CDPO resolved the issue. I had distributed eggs to some of the beneficiaries. However, some others led by one Ajay Behera came to the anganwadi centre and questioned me over the issue. Later, they beat me, tore my blouse and recorded the act with mobiles and then made them viral,” said the anganwadi worker.

“When my family members came to my rescue they attacked them also. I demand stringent action against them and justice should be done to me, if not I will end my life in front of the police station,” she threatened.

The anganwadi worker, meanwhile, has filed a complaint with the local police, based on which, a probe has been initiated by the cops.
