Vice President Venkaiah Naidu arrives in Bhubaneswar, to attend AIIMS convocation

Bhubaneswar: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived on a one-day visit to Bhubaneswar to attend the first convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here today.

Upon his arrival at the Biju Patanik International Airport, the Vice President was given a grand reception in the presence of Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradha and Jual Oram, CM Naveen Patnaik.

The Vice President was earlier to attend the convocation on August 16 but the his visit was rescheduled after deferment of the ceremony.

At least 106 persons will be awarded with gold medals for commendable achievements in their respective fields, during the convocation which would start at 10 AM and continue till 11.30. Union Health Minister JP Nadda would award the degrees to the students in the concluding part of the convocation, informed AIIMS sources.

In view of the Vice President’s visit the Commissionerate Police has put in place elaborate security arrangements in adherence to the Blue Book guidelines. Similarly, 30 platoons of police force have been deployed in the capital city to maintain law and order.
