Veteran Odia actor Mihir Das dies

Cuttack: Veteran Odia film actor Mihir Das died on Tuesday. He passed away at the age of 63 years while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Cuttack.

Confirming about Mihir Das’ death, Odia Cine Artists Association Secretary, Sritam Dash said that he breathed his last while being treated at a private hospital.

It is to be noted here that Das was admitted to a private hospital after his health condition was critical following which he has been put on ventilator support.

A team of doctors was keeping constant monitoring of his health condition.

Mihir Das was born in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj on February 17, 1959. He debuted in the Odia film industry with an art film School Master and then in commercial (non-art) film Mathura Bijay in 1979.

He was married to singer and film artist Sangita Das, the daughter of the popular singer, Chitta Jena. She died in 2010 due to a heart attack.

Mihir Das and Sangita Das have a son, Amlan Das, who is also an actor in the Ollywood industry.

He received wider applause and recognition for his performance in Pua Mora Bholashankar. A veteran actor for more than three decades, he received Best Actor award from the state government for his performance in movies Laxmi Protima in 1998 and Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni in 2005.

Meanwhile, condolences poured in for the actor from all quarters of life.
