Bhubaneswar: Veteran leader Damodar Rout today announced his retirement from electoral politics. Rout a seven-time MLA had left ruling BJD and had joined BJP just before the general election this year.

The decision of the leader came hours after the BJD announced the list of its star campaigners for Bijepur bypoll. The list did not figure the name of the senior leader who lost the polls from Balikuda-Ersama assembly constituency.

Rout said that he has lost interest in poll politics but will continue to remain in touch with the people after retirement and work towards their welfare.

Rout was expelled from BJD in September last year after he had made a series of allegations of corruption in different state departments, including in his former ministry, that of Agriculture.
