Cuttack: A notorious criminal was injured in an encounter with police at Jagatpur in Cuttack this evening. The criminal Manoj Patra (32) has sustained bullet injuries on his right leg and has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Police said that Patra was involved in as many as 18 criminal cases in various police stations in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
Police said that acting on a tip-off, a police team had been to Jagatpur to apprehend Patra when he tried to escape in his car. “He drove his vehicle towards Kendarpara and we chased him. However, he opened fire on us as a result of which two police personnel sustained minor injuries. We had to open fire in self-defence and he was nabbed subsequently,” said a police official.
Police have seized a pistol and two rounds of live bullets from the possession of Patra. Police have also seized the car and said that further investigation is continuing to verify his antecedents.
