Keonjhar: Tightening the noose around the necks of wood mafias in the district, forest officials seized huge quantity of sal logs by conducting a raid inside Khesra forest near Hatikucha village under Harichandanpur block this morning.
As per the report, Harichandanpur Forest Division got a tip-off on the illegal tree felling in the wee hours today. Later, a forest team accompanied by local police conducted a raid inside Khesra forest and seized a number of tractors laden with sal logs.
However, the wood mafias involved the incident managed to escaped from the spot before the arrival of the joint team.
While the seized logs would cost around Rs 70000, we have launched a manhunt to catch the escaped traders, said a forest department source.
